If you want to create your own design to 3D print, there are many different available software options. Any option that yields an STL file is acceptable to print with us. However, our specific recommendations are Tinkercad, Fusion, and Blender.
Tinkercad
Tinkercad is a beginner friendly and free software for 3D modeling. If you are interested in learning 3D modeling but do not know where to begin, Tinkercad is a great place to start. The following video gives a concise and thorough walkthrough of the software.
Fusion
Fusion is best for people interested in more intermediate to advanced 3D modeling. While it is normally a paid service, UF students are able to access it for a free one-year trial! On Autodesk Fusion for Education, select the student plan and enter your UF email, along with the university’s information. After that, you should get an email confirmation of your free trial. The following link provides a detailed course on how to use Fusion.
Blender
Blender is another free software that is mainly used for modeling and animation. If you are looking to model something very specific or are interested in the more artistic aspects of 3D rendering, Blender may be the right fit for you. It is one of the more complicated options and better for more advanced experience. The follow video shows you how to use blender as a beginner.
