Flat Sublimation Guide

Use the instructions below to sublimate flat items such as fabric, mousepads, coasters, etc.

  1. Size your image to the same size as your sublimation blank. You can use Canva to create a custom size. The image can be JPEG, PDG, PNG, SVG, etc.

  1. Send the image to yourself or put it on a USB stick so you can save it to the Makerspace Workstation Computer (this computer has the software to use the sublimation printer).
  1. Place a sheet of sublimation paper in the sublimation printer with the blank side DOWN (writing up), and power on the printer.

  1. Press Print! The image will already be mirrored and ready for sublimation.
  1. Prepare your sublimation blank by putting the image you just printed face down on the blank (you should use heat resistant tape here to ensure it stays in place and will not smudge)
Materials required for sublimation: photo, heat transfer tape, mousepad
  1. Turn on the heat press and heat it to your required temperature, and set the timer to your required time using the buttons on the heat press.

  1. Place your item on the heat press with your image face down on top. Put a sheet of reusable Teflon on top to protect the rest of your item. Then place a large sheet of Kraft Paper (Brown paper) on top of all of it to absorb the smells. Close the heat press and wait for the timer to run down!
