Marston Makerspace offers equipment and supplies to sublimate just about anything!

What is Sublimation?

Sublimation is a unique process which transfers images or text onto synthetic materials. The sublimation printer uses special ink and paper that, when applied with high heat, transforms into a gas and fuses into the synthetic fabric. Although comparable to processes like using inkjet printable T-shirt paper, sublimation lasts longer and is more reliable due to the way the dye is applied. This is most commonly done with synthetic fabric or “sublimation blanks”, which are items like mousepads, keychains, mugs, tumblers and more that are specifically designed for this process.

Our Equipment

Sublimation Printer: We have a Sawgrass SG1000 Sublimation printer. This printer requires a special software to use, so we also have a public use computer in the Makerspace that already has the software installed and a public account created for you to use.

Sublimation Paper: We provide the sublimation paper for your use. We have several sizes depending on your needs.

Heat Presses: We have two flat heat presses, one large and one medium. These can be used for flat items such as fabric, mousepads, coasters, and more. We also have a cylindrical heat press with various sizes of attachments. These can be used for sublimation mugs and tumblers.

The Process

• You will need your design ready and appropriately sized for your project.
  • You can use PNG, PDF, SVG and more!
  • You can either bring the design on a USB stick, email it to yourself, or download it from Canva when you arrive.
  • Dimensions for our sublimation blanks can be found on the respective sublimation guides.
• You will also need to have your sublimation material.
  • If you are using fabric (like a blanket, scarf, t-shirt, etc), please be sure to bring that with you. Make sure it is 90-100% polyester for the sublimation process to work.
  • If you are using one of our blanks, fill out the form below and pay, then we will give you your blank when you arrive in the Makerspace.
• To print, you can either use our computer which already has the Sawgrass software installed, or you can download the free Sawgrass Print Utility app on your own computer and create an account
• To physically sublimate, there are specific instructions for fabrics, mousepads, tumblers and mugs, which you can read ahead of time below, or follow along with a hard copy in the space.
