Heat Presses

Makerspace has two different heat presses of varying sizes. The smaller table press (9″x11″) can be used for shirts and various other clothing items. If your design exceeds that size, you can use our larger HPN heat press (16″x20″).

What can heat presses be used for?

Heat presses in Makerspace are mainly used for heat-transfer vinyl, inkjet printable transfer paper, or sublimation. These processes are all used for custom clothing and T-shirt designs. Depending on which material you are using you will use a different temperature and time.

  • Heat-transfer vinyl: 315°F for 15 seconds
  • Sublimation: 400°F for 50 seconds
  • Inkjet printable transfer paper: based on individual brand instructions

Process

  • Adjust temperature settings
  • Carefully place the clothing with the design on the bottom pad of the press
  • Place a teflon sheet on top of the design to protect the heat press and design
  • Pull the lever shut until it clicks, the timer will begin counting down
  • The timer will beep when it is done
  • Pull the lever up to release the lock
  • Carefully pull out the design, being careful of the heat coming from the top of the press
  • The process can be repeated if the design is not properly adhered
