This week, the Marston Science Library and the Marston Makerspace collaborated with the UF Student Science Training Program (SSTP). The SSTP is a seven-week residential research program for rising high school seniors interested in science, medicine, math, computer science, or engineering, and offers hands-on research experience under UF faculty mentorship. Marston hosted 62 SSTP students as they learned about what the library offers, did a tour of the facility and learned about how to access primary and secondary sources through the library’s databases.
Part of their tour involved the Makerspace, where they learned about what they can do in the space, and how they can use the resources for personal or academic pursuits. They then did a hands-on activity where they made rock picture holders. Students were encouraged to create imaginative pieces, and some of the creations were quite unique!
